The Miller Home was found in 1875 when Samuel Miller donated land and endowment funds toward the construction of the Lynchburg Female Orphan Asylum. The current building behind E. C. Glass High School, on Westerly Drive, was built in 1959.

The Miller Home is a private, residential group home for non-delinquent, dependent girls. It is not a correctional facility but is a place of opportunity for girls who have been deprived of a home by adverse circumstances.

Today's resident requires a more professional, therefore more expensive, level of care. There is no financial requirement for admission to The Miller Home, although each child's family is encouraged to contribute to the best of their ability. The Miller Home is a non-profit organization supported by contributions from individuals, businesses, organizations and endowment earnings.
